Uppu seedai is a standard South Indian snack that’s made by deep-frying rice flour balls in sizzling oil.  The crispy, crunchy texture of the uppu seedai is what makes it so fashionable amongst its shoppers.

Uppu Seedai is a standard snack which is often provided to the Lord Krishna on Janmashtami.

Servings: 2 folks

Substances for Seedai (Uppu Seedai)

  • 4 cup Uncooked Rice
  • 1/2 cup Urad Dal
  • 2 tbsp Bengal Gram Dal
  • 100 g Butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Asafoetida Powder
  • 500 ml Oil
  • 2 tbsp White Sesame Seeds

  • Soak the rice in water for half-hour.

  • Drain nicely and unfold out to dry within the shade.

  • Grind to a positive powder and sieve nicely.

  • Dry roast the flour until golden and take away.

  • Sieve once more.

  • Dry roast the urad dal and grind to a powder.

  • Soak the Bengal gram dal for half-hour and drain.

  • Mix the rice flour, urad dal flour, Bengal gram dal, sesame seeds, asafoetida powder and salt in a bowl.

  • Add butter and blend nicely.

  • Steadily add sufficient water and blend nicely to a clean dough. Hold apart for half-hour.

  • Make small balls of the dough and maintain them on a white material.

  • Warmth oil in a deep frying pan.

  • When the seedai balls have dried, fry them in sizzling oil until golden.

  • Take away and drain extra oil.

  • Retailer in a clear jar.


The rice needn’t be soaked in water. You may make the seedai with out soaking the rice too.
You may as well use available rice flour.
